Puerto Viejo!

This week a few of us skipped a day and a half of school and took a little trip down to Puerto Viejo! It was so much fun! It was a little mini vacation away from the vacation that we are already on. It was nice to get away from school for a day. I've decided that too much spanish can make a person go crazy. We took the bus down to Puerto Viejo on Tuesday after class and came back on Thursday morning. It was a nice long 4 hour bus ride... but definitely worth it.

The beaches of the Caribbean Sea are so beautiful and the water is so clear!

On Wednesday a few people in the group went scuba diving. I'm not a huge fan of swimming at all, especially not where there are fish..but they talked me into going along with them on the boat and the nice people who owned the boat dropped me and another girl off on the prettiest beach I've ever seen. Of course I didn't have my camera though, dang it! She and I did a little snorkeling. I've never done it before. As much as I hate fish it was still so fun to see so many of them swimming around the coral. There were so many different colors of fish! It was amazing. Before we went out on the boat we went to get some breakfast. This is a few of us at breakfast.

My roomate Joslyn and I had to take a picture in front of the restaurant where we ate because it was the most delicious breakfast ever. I had french toast with strawberries and chocolate sauce. So yummy!

We spent the two nights there in a hostel. It was called Rocking J's, and it was totally rocking. That was my first experience with a hostel and it was interesting to say the least. There were tons of people there from all over the world. It was kind of strange to have no privacy at all. We had the option of either sleeping in a tent...yes a tent, like we were camping... or we could sleep in a hammock. Joslyn and I shared a tent so we could avoid getting eaten by bugs all night long. This is a picture in the hostel where we stayed. EVERYONE in Puerto Viejo smokes weed. Ha ha it made me laugh so hard. The sign says that you can't smoke your weed in the hostel, you have to go to the beach to do it.

We met a lot of people there at the hostel. They were really cool. People from all over the world! I played cards all night with a guy from Germany, a guy from Australia, and a guy from Whales. There was also a girl from England there who was really cool. I talked with her for a while about where she lives. It is so interesting to hear about life in other countries. Joslyn and I met three guys from England who taught us how to play rugby and then played cards with all of us that night. These are a couple of the guys from England. We had fun listening to them talk and hearing all the strange expressions they use. I was laughing all night long.

It was so fun to be able to meet so many interesting people. Some day I want to just travel all over staying in hostels and meeting new people. This is Tawna and Joslyn sitting at the table while we were playing cards and making new friends.

It was kind of depressing to have to come back here to San Jose and get back to school. I was so glad that we got to take a break from it all and go have some fun! Tomorrow we are going to do a little over night trip with the group to a volcano and some hot springs. Hopefully we will be doing a zipline tour through the jungle. I can't wait!
